Rainbow, De Luz and Pala Mesa are close enough to Fallbrook that many people think of them as part of town, and they share the 92028 ZIP code. Fallbrook Heating & Air, a family HVAC company based in Fallbrook since 1972, provides HVAC service across all three for homes and ranches. That means furnace and heat pump repair, air conditioning, and the filtration that rural homes need during fire season.

Three communities, three sets of HVAC questions

They're grouped on one page because they're small, not because they're the same.

Rainbow

Rainbow sits north of Fallbrook along I-15 and Old Highway 395, up against the Riverside County line, and is known for its nurseries and growers. Homes are spread out, many with no natural-gas service. The Rainbow Gap is a well-known low point in the hills where marine air pushes inland toward the Temecula Valley, so afternoons here can be breezy. That's good for comfort and hard on outdoor units: wind-blown leaves, dust and debris pack into condenser coils.

De Luz

De Luz is the most remote of the three: canyon country west and north of Fallbrook, reached by narrow roads like De Luz Road toward the Santa Margarita River. Properties are large, often on wells and propane, and some sit near or across the Riverside County line. Two practical things help us here. Tell us about gates, codes and tricky driveways when you book, and know where your propane tank and shutoff are.

Pala Mesa

Pala Mesa sits along I-15 near the SR-76 interchange, around the golf course and resort. Its homes are more suburban than De Luz or Rainbow, closer to what you'd find in town, and more of them have standard split systems with a furnace and AC. The questions here are usually about age and replacement rather than fuel.

How does the rural climate here affect heating and cooling?

These hills sit inland, so summers are warm to hot and winters bring cold nights, especially in the canyons where cool air pools. Heating matters more here than on the coast. Many homes heat with propane or electricity rather than natural gas, and wildfire smoke in some seasons makes filtration part of the job too.

With propane, every hour a furnace runs is fuel you paid to have delivered, so an efficient furnace or a heat pump can change your winter bills. We install 80% and 96% efficient gas furnaces and heat pumps, and we service, maintain and install propane furnaces as well as natural gas ones, all makes. Our heat pump vs furnace guide compares the options, including propane.

Smell gas or propane near your furnace or tank? Leave the house, don't touch switches, and call your propane supplier or 911 from outside. Call us once it's safe.

Fire season is the other local reality. When smoke drifts over the hills, your return vent can pull it inside. Our wildfire smoke guide explains how to set up your system, and electrostatic filtration can trap more fine particles than a basic filter.

Services we provide in Rainbow, De Luz and Pala Mesa

Who issues HVAC permits here?

Rainbow, De Luz and Pala Mesa are unincorporated, so permits come from San Diego County Planning & Development Services, not a city. A furnace, AC or heat pump replacement needs a County mechanical permit, a County inspection and Title 24 duct sealing verified by an ECC rater. If your parcel is north of the county line, Riverside County is the permitting agency instead. We check your parcel before we apply, and we pull the permit on every job that needs one.

ZIP code we serve

All three communities share Fallbrook's 92028 ZIP code, which we serve. Rainbow and De Luz are usually about 30 minutes from our Fallbrook base, and we'll give you an arrival window for your address, Pala Mesa included, when you book. Next door, we also cover Bonsall. Call (760) 728-8716 to book.

Frequently asked questions

Do you service furnaces in De Luz and Rainbow homes that use propane?

Many homes in De Luz and Rainbow have no natural-gas main and heat with propane or electricity. We work on gas furnaces and heat pumps, and when you call we'll confirm your fuel type and equipment so we arrive with the right parts. If you're replacing a furnace, we'll also compare a heat pump.

My De Luz property is near the Riverside County line. Who issues the permit?

It depends which side of the line your parcel sits on. Most of De Luz, Rainbow and Pala Mesa is unincorporated San Diego County, so Planning & Development Services issues the permit. Parcels north of the line fall under Riverside County. We check your parcel before applying.

Can my HVAC system help with wildfire smoke out here?

It can help, but it isn't a cure. Better filtration traps more of the fine particles, and running the fan on recirculate with windows shut keeps smoky air from being pulled in. Filters load up fast during a fire, so check and change them more often. Ask us about electrostatic filtration.
